L-Arginine is an amino acid that is naturally produced by the human body, mostly in the kidneys and to a lesser extent in the liver. It naturally has many functions; for instance it helps cleansing the body from ammonia, and also is used to make creatine, L-glutamate and L-proline. If needed it is converted to glucose and glycogen. It is also used to make nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels in the human body. Some studies have shown that L-arginine might help improve conditions that benefit from more relaxed blood vessels; amongst other things erectile dysfunction.

Although L-Arginine is used for many things such as heart disease, wound healing etc, it has also found use in the treatment of Erectile dysfunction. The effect is similar to that of Viagra; both heighten the concentration of nitric oxide in the body; Viagra by blocking an enzyme that breaks down nitric oxide, and L-Arginine by creating more nitric oxide. Therefore it is believed that L-Arginine can help improve sexual sensation and improve erections in men.

Other uses include: sexual dysfunction in women and migraine.

It is believed that the use of L-Arginine in lubricants (such as ID Pleasure) is beneficial to the sex drive of people who use it. If you are healthy (i.e. are not suffering from heart problems, liver/kidney disease, diabetes) and are not pregnant or nursing an infant, there should be little risk in using a lubricant which contains L-Arginine during sex.
